A typical day at Meadow & Moss

There isn't actually a truly ‘typical’ day — every day is shaped by the children’s interests, the weather, and the adventures waiting for us. What is consistent is our rhythm, our nurturing approach, and our commitment to meaningful, nature‑rich experiences.

Morning registration

Families drop off at the hall, where we greet the children, settle in, and enjoy breakfast together.

This calm, welcoming start helps everyone feel ready for the day ahead.

Heading out for adventure

Once we’re ready, our learning begins — and it could take us anywhere. You may see us exploring the local pathways or outskirts of Bedford, hopping on public transport, or travelling by car to discover new places. Our days often include:

  • Community visits

  • Trips to lakes, rivers, woodlands, and heritage sites

  • Exploring local nature and wildlife

These real‑life experiences help children build confidence, independence, and practical life skills.

Time in the garden or hall

Some days, we stay closer to home. Children might:

  • Cook meals to share with friends in the community

  • Explore sensory and creative activities

  • Engage in child‑led play in our garden

  • Take part in small‑group learning indoors

We follow the children’s interests, allowing them to lead their own learning journey.

Meals and snacks

Throughout the day, children are offered breakfast, morning snack, afternoon snack and their packed lunch. We make sure children stay nourished, hydrated, and energised for their adventures.

Pick‑up

We return to the hall for pick‑up, giving children time to reflect on their day and share their stories with you.

Education, health & wellbeing charge

Government funding covers your child's education, but doesn't stretch to the meals, snacks, everyday necessities specialised craft items, and enriching extras that make up their day with us. This charge lets us keep providing nutritious food, a clean and well-resourced environment, and the wider activities that support your child's development and wellbeing — without compromising on quality.

This small charge of £2 per hour isn’t mandatory but if you choose not to pay we’ll need you to provide the items it covers and we may not be able to include your child in all our adventures, such as our regular trips out or specific enrichment activities, which go above and beyond the standard Early Years educational offer.
